The Wounded Healer

This Memorial Day weekend, I am reminded of the Greek myth of the wounded healer.  According to myth, the Centaur Chiron was wounded by one of Hercules’ poisoned arrows.  Because he was immortal, he didn’t die, but instead was condemned to a life of eternal pain.  In learning to live with his pain, Chiron acquired the ability to help others to learn to live with their own pain.  Perhaps in this way, we can all become wounded healers.
